A Must See!

I went to a movie tonight. Can you believe that?! I actually got out of the house and went to a movie. My awesome mother watched Johnny so I could go. I saw the new Star Trek movie. WOW. I LOVED it. It was such an incredibly movie. Here's why:

1. I am a trekie. Sad, but true. Grew up watching both the original and the Next Generation. I even own a life size cardboard cutout of Spock. I was always home by 10pm weeknights in high school- not because I was angelic, but because Star Trek was on at 10. And even though I taped every episode, I still wanted to watch it live. (John would have never asked me to marry him if I had let any of that slip before our marriage.)

2. There are so many parts that would have made me cry if I had not been with other people. Sometimes it's nice to watch a movie that gets you emotional (back me up on this girls).

3. It reminded me of John. Almost every part of it. StarFleet reminds me of the Air Force more than any other branch of the military, probably because they are flying around in space. And they take their jobs so seriously, and it's all about honor and courage - things that describe John. Plus the main guy is hot and wears a uniform - again, memories of John.

4. The plot is pretty cool, very intense, and a little far-out. I like far-out plots because they make you think a lot more, and analyze everything. I really feel like a part of movie when I'm mentally engaged, trying to solve a problem. It helps me feel like I'm one of the characters. My roommates can attest that I REALLY get into my shows. :)

5. It has a good ending. As much as I like complicated, heavy, imaginative plots, I still like the happy, feel good endings. I'm a Transformer-meets-Jane-Austin kind of girl.

I could go on and on, but I won't. I'll just say that I highly recommend it. (That being said, I acknowledge there is a very short, naughty part. It's not triple X naughty, but naughty all the same.) I am curious to hear what everyone else thinks of it.

I never gave these a chance when I was a kid because they were too weird looking. I think you had a lunch box didn't you? Maybe I will check it out. You are awesome. Alena

I'm glad to hear you liked it. I can't wait to see it. I'm just trying to figure out when I'll make it...

Did you know we grew up on Star Trek too? I totally watched DS9 with my dad on Saturday evenings and Next Generation at night (that was my favorite).

(And I had to laugh at the mental picture #4 brought up...you...a TV...sitting veeeerrryyyy close....heeheehee.)

Thanks for the review, Emily! I already wanted to see it, but now I want to see it really bad! I'm not a devoted Trekie, but I sure do like it. As a little girl my favorite episode was The Trouble With Tribbles. Lol about the roommates & you getting into your shows. Just shows you're more passionate than other people -- which is great!

That is so funny that you are a Trekkie. I want to see that movie, so thanks for the review. I hope you had a good Mother's Day.

Andre went and saw it last week too and even though he's never watched any of the Star Trek shows on tv, he really liked it too. You probably won't get a review from me until it's out on dvd though ;)

Em - John & I (and the whole Alley family) grew up watching Star Trek - Dad LOVED it! I don't know how passionate of a Trekie John ended up being - but I'm sure he would have appreciated the Trekie in you :) About the song on your playlist - I bet John feels the exact same way - he can't get his mind off you.

I had no idea you were a trekie. I wasn't really excited to see the movie last weekend but my bro-in-law bought us tickets and I loved it! It really is a great movie. I too recommend it.

I saw this on Saturday and LOVED it and I'm not a trekie. I don't think I've even ever seen an episode of Star Trek on TV but I loved it still. And I loved your analysis of it here AND I loved catching up with you today. :-)
